Training Overview: This training will provide participants with an understanding of the contemporary issues, debates and challenges concerning the application of law and ethics to business. It will provide an overview of legal systems, substantive law applicable to business, and comparative law perspectives. As well, it will explore ethical foundations, frameworks, and dilemmas, theories of moral reasoning, professional codes of conduct, and the similarities and differences between the law governing business people and their ethical duties.
Goals:
- Understand the history, conceptual frameworks, debates and current challenges confronting the application of law and ethics to business.
- Provide informed and reasoned analysis of specific ethical questions.
- Apply the knowledge learned to contemporary and hypothetical situations.

- The relationship between law and ethics applicable to business.
- How law and ethics differ – what are their respective foundations and roles.
- Types of ethical dilemmas – exploring and finding your moral compass.
- The duties of a business.
- Fundamental values of business professionals.
- What a conflict of interest (COI) is.
- Corporations as an artificial person with limited liability.
- Corporate Social Responsibility.
- Technology and the changing face of business.
- What substantive law governs those in business.
- Hiring practices, workplace safety, employee privacy, whistle-blowing.
- Corruption & bribery.
Training Methodology: 50% Theory, 50% Practical
This will be an interactive session, drawing from experience and prompting the participants to engage in discussions and analysis of case studies and the readings (provided by the trainer) as well as role-play activities carried out during the training.
