Course description
The course provides a comprehensive introduction to Proxmox VE. It is focused on its architecture, installation and management. Participants will learn to configure network settings, manage storage, virtual machines and containers, implement security strategies including a firewall.

Day 1: Basics, Installation, and Configuration
Introduction and Installation
- Overview of Proxmox Virtual Environment
- History and development of Proxmox.
Differences between Proxmox and other virtualization platforms (eg VMware, Hyper-V).
- Concepts / architecture / single-node deployment technology.
- Proxmox VE architecture description.
- Explaining the role of KVM hypervisor and LXC container technology.
Hardware requirements for single-node deployments
- Minimum and recommended hardware specifications.
- Important aspects of hardware selection for optimal performance.
Installing and managing software updates
- Step by step installation process of Proxmox VE.
- Setup and manage software updates and upgrades.
Configuration and work with web GUI
- Introduction to Web Control (GUI).
- Navigating the Proxmox GUI.
- Basics of configuration through the web interface.
Network model
- Configuration of network interfaces.
- Bridge and VLAN settings.
Storage model - local and shared storage
- Overview of supported storage types in Proxmox.
- Configuration and management of local and shared storage solutions.
Day 2: Virtual Machine Management and Security
Virtual machines and containers
- Basic authentication and user management.
- Setting up user accounts and roles.
- Configuring permissions and authentication methods.
KVM: Creating and Managing Virtual Machines (Windows & Linux)
- Creating, configuring and managing VMs.
- Installation and configuration of the guest OS.
LXC: Create and manage containers (Linux only)
- Differences between VMs and containers.
- Creating and managing Linux containers.
Manage VM/CT startup and shutdown behavior
- Automation of starting and shutting down VMs and CTs.
- Planning and managing service dependencies.
Backup and recovery, scheduling
- Backup strategy for VMs and CTs, including offsite backups.
- Backup planning, setup and management of backup jobs.
Proxmox VE Firewall
- Firewall configuration and optimization in Proxmox VE.
- Rules and policies to ensure network security.
Deployment of the guest
- Automation of installation and configuration of new VMs and CTs.
- Using templates and preconfigured settings for fast deployment.
Troubleshooting (for simple node setup)
- Diagnosing and solving common problems.
- Tools and procedures for effective troubleshooting.
Determining Node (Network) Performance
- Network performance monitoring and optimization.
- Using internal and external tools to measure and improve performance.

After the workshop, you will receive a certificate of completion.
